Statement of Attorney General Candidate Chris Mattei on Supreme Court Travel Ban Decision
Today, the Supreme Court of the United States narrowly upheld President Trump’s travel ban on seven countries, five of them primarily Muslim. In doing so, the Court ignored Donald Trump’s unconstitutional motive for proposing the ban, which he announced for all the world to hear: he wanted to ban Muslims from traveling to the United States. This was a religious test, plain and simple. Today’s ruling does nothing to change that. Not every fight can be won, but every fight must be fought vigorously and effectively, as this one was. This case is an important reminder that we must elect an Attorney General who has experience successfully fighting in court on behalf of our families and our values. The stakes for all of us could not be higher, and the fight to make sure that all people enjoy the equal protection of our laws goes on.
