Hartford, CT – Today, State Senate President Pro Tem Martin Looney announced his endorsement of former Assistant United States Attorney Chris Mattei for Attorney General. Looney was first elected to the state senate in 1992, and was elected President Pro Tempore, the highest position in the senate, in January 2015.

“Martin Looney is a dedicated public servant who has fought for the residents of his district and the people of our state time and time again. Everyone in Connecticut politics knows Marty’s values, his courage, and his integrity,” said Mattei. “Marty has been a champion for the values that matter most – opportunity, equality, fairness and dignity. I am deeply honored that he will be standing alongside me in this campaign and beyond.”

State Senate President Pro Tem Martin Looney said, “I’ve been in politics a long time, and I’ve rarely seen a candidate like Chris Mattei. No attorney in recent memory has handled more complex, high-stakes cases of urgent concern to Connecticut than Chris has. I know the Attorney General’s Office and, at a time when federal policies are so antagonistic to Connecticut’s interests, there is no other candidate I trust to lead that office. As a teacher, a union organizer and a vigorous prosecutor against government corruption, he has lived progressive values throughout his life, and it’s no surprise that his campaign has inspired thousands of people around Connecticut. I’m deeply gratified to be standing with him to win this election.”
